Bridging China
& the World

25 years building technology across five countries. I help entrepreneurs, travelers, and professionals unlock the China advantage most of the world is sleeping on.

The bridge has been
my whole career

I am Han-Hong Lu — 吕汉鸿 — a Singapore Chinese educated in Germany with a semester at UMKC, shaped by a decade in the American Midwest, and building at the intersection of China and the world.

Over 25 years I have led 280-engineer teams for global banks including Citibank and Nomura, taught graduate computer science in Iowa, and architected AI systems since 2017 — before LLMs became mainstream.

My most rewarding moment as a professor was a chemical engineering student walking into my office to say: "You totally changed my way of looking at software design."

That is what I am building toward again — at scale, on the internet, for people who need a new map.

"The beast does not announce its return."

Three moments that
shaped everything

01

The Bot

Iowa City, USA · F1 Visa

Looking for work in America on a student visa, I signed up on every job board — Dice, Monster, CareerBuilder. Every morning meant manually refreshing my profile to stay visible to recruiters. A developer should not rely on fast fingers. So I wrote a bot to do it with a single keystroke. Problem solved. Lesson encoded for life.

"Code is leverage. Fast fingers are not."

02

The Automation That Hurt Someone

Singapore

A colleague pulled sales records every two hours — frontend vs database — and emailed managers to confirm they matched. One day she was sick. I was asked to cover. That violated everything I believed about how a developer's time should be spent. I asked a coworker to hold the fort while I spent the day writing code to automate the entire workflow. It worked perfectly. And it made her role redundant. I have never forgotten that.

"Every automation has a human cost. Build anyway — but never forget."

03

The Greenhouse

Midwest, USA

A business owner doing greenhouse farming asked me to build a controller with a Raspberry Pi. I had zero prior knowledge. I said yes. After weeks of learning, failing, and trying again, I hit Enter — and foam started blowing into the greenhouse exactly as designed. In that moment I learned what elation means. Not from a dictionary. From real life.

"Say yes first. Learn while doing. Elation is the reward."
